The STAR 1200XL is the third generation of the world’s best selling see-through augmented reality eyewear system. Based on a rich heritage of features, flexibility, and performance the STAR 1200XL enhancements offer a wider field of view, an improved high performance HD camera and adjustable eye separation. The STAR 1200XL includes a copy of maxReality AR authoring software and is compatible with most Windows-based AR authoring and development systems.
Utilizing Vuzix’ patented quantum optic see-thru technology, the STAR 1200XL enables you to see the real world directly through its transparent widescreen video displays. Computer content, such as text, images and video, are overlaid in 2D or 3D on the displays, equivalent to a 75-inch flat panel display, as seen from 10 feet (~3m).
A new smaller and lighter high performance 1080p camera provides marker or target acquisition for AR applications. This UVC (Universal Video Class) compliant camera is seen by PC operating systems as a standard USB webcam without the need for special drivers. Improved 3-DoF (Degrees of Freedom) head tracker enables spacial awareness when used with Vuzix tracker enabled software.

Compatibility
AR is an emerging market undergoing constant change. The STAR 1200XL is designed to provide broad compatibility through its extensive use of common industry standards and adaptability. Many of its key components such as the displays, speakers and camera just work out-of-the-box on Windows-based PCs and some alternate PC operating systems.
Two types of host device interfaces expand compatibility. A VGA Controller enables the eyewear and it accessories to connect to a VGA compatible personal computer and a PowerPak + Controller for connecting to composite and component devices, such as mobile phones and tablets, and displaying their video output.
Displays
Vuzix patented Quantum Optics see-through displays empower the wearer to view the real world directly with computer-generated content in a 75-inch virtual display, as seen from 10 feet (~3m).
Twin16:9 native aspect ratio WVGA (852 x 480) displays with adjustable eye-separation provide the best possible display clarity in standard 2D or spectacular 3D. No special graphics cards or drivers are required for 3D, just industry standard side-by-side 3D content.
Audio
What is great video is only enhanced with stunning audio? High-fidelity, noise-isolating earphones provide crisp clear audio while dramatically reducing distracting external noise. The earphones come complete with a variety is noise-isolation ring sizes and the earphones can be removed to enable the use of alternate audio systems.
Video Capture
Video Capture is an important component in enabling a realistic AR experience. An improved UVC (Universal Video Class) compliant 1080p HD camera now offers reduced weight and size with high definition performance. The STAR’s new HD camera operates independent from other eyewear components and is seen by Windows as a standard UVC webcam for maximum plug ‘n play convenience and flexibility.
Head Tracker
Your AR application may know your location through its host device but GPS positioning cannot tell you the user’s current direct or angle of view – the Wrap Tracker on the STAR 1200XL can.
The Wrap Tracker plugs directly into the STAR display module and proved 3 degrees of freedom tracking information to tracker-enabled applications. A Vuzix SDK provides a Windows DLL and programming examples making integration fast and easy.
AR Content
Each STAR 1200XL includes a copy of maxReality, an AR authoring software package developed by Vuzix. maxReality is an Autodesk 3ds Max plugin that empowers you to transform your 3ds Max content and scenes into interactive 3D AR content with little more than a few mouse clicks.
The STAR 1200XL is not restricted to maxReality. It works with most Windows based AR authoring and construction software, including all of the market leaders.
