What are waveguides?
Waveguides are thin (about 1 mm thick for each individual plate), see-through/transparent, optical elements that take a projected virtual image and relay it to the eye while expanding the exit pupil (viewing window) at the same time.
Available in full-color, prescription ready, and a variety of sizes to fit the use case, Vuzix waveguides can be built from plastic or glass, allowing for light to travel freely between two surfaces. A projected image bounces along the interior of the lenses and then appears seemingly in space in front of the eye.
Full Scale Waveguide Manufacturing
Operating within a 13,000 sq ft manufacturing and fulfillment center located in New York State, Vuzix produces custom optics equipment for the end to end production of AR smart glasses and OEM solutions. Vuzix best-in-class waveguides, a key component of the most advanced smart glasses offerings, are produced in our ISO 9001:2015 facility ensuring the highest levels of product quality and precision.
Advancements in waveguide technology achieved by Vuzix, and consequent IP advantages, are in part due to the array of advanced research and modeling equipment located on the premises, including a full optics lab where evolving breakthroughs in our understanding of light happen regularly.
